MURGON

19/08/05. Packed up and moved onto Bjelke Peterson Dam today, 10km from the nearest town of Murgon, the dam camping area is huge and very popular with Angler's as it is stocked with Yellow Belly, Bass, Silver Perch and Saratoga.
Drove into Murgon to shop and a look around, today is dole day and there are a lot of "Locals" in the park's, club's, pub's and sitting in car's drinking Grog - as it was about lunch time we went to the R.S.L. for a feed of fish and chip's, not too bad at $3.50 each - at the door entrance stood an Aboriginal man who said to Sandra as we went in "Hello lady" San said Hi Mate and he said to me "G'day Man". We have never seen so many Aboriginal women in a pub playing poker machine's and Swearing there lungs out, we were the only White people there at the time and as more came in they sat at our table.
On the way back to the Dam we called into the small town of Cherbourg - we wanted to see the first commercial Emu farm in Australia - some of the local people came from the Wakka Wakka tribe and some from Dalby (Culidy Tribe) and the Quilpy tribe from Roma and also from the central west towns of Queensland, we felt uneasy out here and turned around at the local hall and went back to the dam.
Drove out to Kingaroy the Peanut capital of Q.L.D. - I bought some Hickory nut's from the Famous Kingaroy Nut Van and San bought home made Pickle's and a Large Apple Pie "YUMMY" and in the war surplus shop I finally bought a Eureka Flag to fly on the caravan annex with Pride.
We then went for a drive to Wondai as everything closes in Kingaroy at 12pm on Saturday. Wondai is named after the Dingo - "Wild Dog"-, it is another old Town with a fine Wood Cutters Museum, a lot of very old house's but not much more.
Next day back at camp 3 Cabin's had been broken into and the park manager was on his Quad bike chasing 2 "local" kid's that he had thought were responsible for the breakin, as he got of his bike they through rock's and then took off as they saw the Police coming down the hill, but they were soon caught, it was said that they were put up to it by the older folk.
