22/08/05. Arrived at a new town again - Yarraman - the cleanest Amenities we have come across, we are on the top of a mountain with a good view of the town below.
We have travelled on many road's now and have seen so much Road Kill, Kangaroo's, Echidna's, Fox, Wombat's and Wild Pig's. The scenery has been unreal and so sad to see dry paddocks - cattle have no feed and the river bed's all dried up, this is only a small part of this place that we have seen so far. Yarraman is another pionerring town & well known today for growing Timber such as Hoop Pine and also the native Bunya Nut Tree - the forrest's are a rich Green and the soil is so Red.
23/8/05. Went for a drive out to The town of Murals (Nanango) a bit disappointing as most of the mural's had faded - but the town also had a good collection of Wooden Sculptures in the surounding street's, Nanango was known for Gold Mining with over 700 Miner's employed in the Mine's, and as well as Gold there was Gemstone's such as Red Garnet and Saphire's found amongst the old digging's , and trace's of Gem's can still be found (wish we had time to look for some), all the wooden carving's were cut by men using Chainsaw's.
I have found another Peanut van and bought a big bag of nut's to take back to the kid's ( that's if I don't eat them before we get back home).
Alyssa rung to say that she has a job at McDonalds - she is so excited about it all, and also a call from Amie to tell us that her and Scott have split up - hope that we can help her when we get back down the coast.
24/8/05. Fiona rang and we drove out to Kilkoy ( Yowie Country) to see her, Joe and Ben, at Yowie Park, Fiona is so sweet, we had a great morning together, and later on drove to Benarkin ( part of the Blackbutt Shire ) and had a look around ? (1 shop ) and then onto Blackbutt, a lot of Old History in this town - Telegraph Pole's were painted in various old time Scene's, Mural's & Coulorful Garden's everywhere and the Highlite of the town was the old Bakery that is the only one in Australia to still use a wooden fire to fuel there old Stove.
25/08/05). We have left Yarraman to go to Toowoomba and have stopped at a free camp at Hampton for the night, but as no other camper's called in for the night we moved onto Toowoomba.
