HERVEY BAY to TOWNSVILLE

2/08. Got our Ass's into gear early today and drove into Townsville to a Seven Day Adventist camp, the cheapest in Townsville at only $25.00 a night, as long as they don't preach to us we will be fine. Took a drive up to castle hill lookout, very steep, it would have been named a mountain and only missed out by a mere few metres.

A great morning today so we are catching the ferry over to Magnetic Island, only 8Km from Townsville. Top views and beaches over here as we did not bring cozies with us we could only put our feet in the Ocean.

6/08. Leaving Townsville we only had to travel 28km to our next destination, a free camp at Saunders Beach, there were a lot of campers here but Neil and I were fortunate to get 2 good sites, we stayed for our allotted time of 48 hours in which time we sun baked on the warm beach, but were very cautious as there may be Croc's in the water.
There was this clown here who didn't care who was looking he just stripped off and had a cold shower - baring all, we waited for his Wife to front up but alas now show. (Bugger).
We have met a nice couple from Horsham in Victoria, Richard and Chris, who had a novel way of getting rid of mosquito's, they burn the fibrous husk of a coconut, it only smokes - don't know which is worse the smoke or the Mozzies?.
Moving on a little further up the road to Bluewater Rest area. Today I have tried out our new generator which I bought on eBay, it was delivered to Townsville and arrived before we did - quick delivery and it works well.
Another move to a new campsite, this time to Toormulla Beach, not to far from the last camp, very wary as the temp was high, I decided I needed a swim, with the others watching out for those very big Lizards (croc's), into the water I went, another guy came down from the beach he also went in the drink, lucky bloke he had a stubby of beer & drunk it in the comfort of the cool sea water. My theory is that croc's mainly hang around in the rivers or close by?.
1. Clown - 2. Green Ant's Nest. 3. - Townsville's Beach side Park on The Strand. 4. - Magnetic Island.

17/07. Driving through the small towns of Dingo & Comet we have stopped at Maccas in Emerald for a soft serve or two. leaving McDonald's we drove out to Therresa Dam via Clermont, and meeting up with good Friends Neil and Lorraine who left down South about 3 months before us, they have reserved a nice spot for us to camp by them.
The weather is to cold to catch a Barra or get a few Redclaw in our nets, better luck next time.
Last night the managers put on a sausage sizzle and movie, Bran Nue Dae staring Ernie Dingo

After 5 days we are moving on with Neil and Raine towards Mackay and stopping at Nebo in the showgrounds overnight, there is a Dressage competition on this weekend. A good time was had by us in the town, pub and dressage arena.

1. Nebo Showgrounds. 2. Neil & I in nebo Hotel. 3. Sunrise at Guthalungra. 4. Cane Toad.

Today we are driving on the Peak Downs Highway with some magnificent scenery in the mountains around us.

26/07. Drove into Mackay today, not a particular nice town for us. The caravan park is very tight with not much room to maneuver around, a couple of days and we're off.

28/07. Weather is starting to warm up as we arrived in Airlie Beach and set up camp in Cannonvale, nice bush land setting but the amenities are Crap.

The 4 of us did the tourist thing -the girls are looking in the shops (wot else) not for Neil and I we will check out the PUBS yeh!!. One of the biggest swimming pools we have seen and a few Topless Chicky babes sun baking, oh they are naughty. Only a short stay this time we will call in on the way back down and have a longer stay.

Packed up and drove out to a camp spot at Guthralungra over the road from a roadhouse where I bought 3 stubbies of xxxx Bitter a very good drop even better at a pub as draft beer. San came back from the showers a bit shaken up as Cane Toads were blocking the entrance, they were feasting on millions of bugs, yuk, the toads are so Fugly.
