CARDWELL

18/08. In Cardwell now, last time we were here the weather was overcast and humid, nothing has changed. waiting for Neil and Loraine to catch up. Today is Remembrance Day of the battle of Long Tan in Vietnam, as Neil is a Returned Vietnam Veteran we have attended the service in the Lions park here in Cardwell, it was very interesting to hear exactly what went on over there, about 20 or more vets turned up, good on them.
Later on we had a couple of Pie's in the local bakery, best we have had in a long long time!!. Did a quick tour in town, saw the old post office which is now a Museum.
After that we drove a little further to Bilyana rest Area where we have met up with a good bunch of Nomads.
What a bloody night!! Trains and trucks all night long trains were the worst, tooting there horn, waking everybody up, bet they had a good laugh.
Passing through Tully we stopped for lunch in the local park, Neil & I climbed up the inside of an icon here The Big Gumboot.
Tully has the highest rainfall in the country with 6 - 7 Metres a year and a record 11 metres a wile back.
We are now in Babinda at another rest area and it is Excellent with good amenities, very nice drinking water, and to top those there is a crystal clear creek to swim in,and no croc's, but another 3km downstream well that's a different matter.
23/08.  left this great camp and drove to another camp at Gordon Vale just 20 km south of Cairns.
drove into Cairns today to pick up some solar panels that I had ordered on eBay they are working very well.
A good camp site here at Gordonvale with plenty of shade and nice people camped here as well, although the Cops were out here last night to send a couple of people that have been abusing this nice area by overstaying there welcome one lot by over a year, can you believe that !!.
It has been extremely hot up here but there is an Olympic size swimming pool in town, we have made good use of it.
We are now staying in Cairns in 1 of there many van parks, we chose the wrong one as a lot of thieving is going on and fighting by some of the Aboriginals from outside of the park.
In town all 4 of us went to the market's - called the Rusty markets - strange name, good food and all sorts of goods sold including good coffee.
30/08. Rained all day and most of last night. Neil and Lorraine packed up and moved to Palm Cove we will catch up in a few days.
After another night of brawling from the locals, we to moved up to Palm Cove. We are not impressed with the stay in Cairns and next time will look for a more friendly park to stay at.
9/09. Into spring now. today the 4 of us drove up to Port Douglas and then to the Daintree where we went on yet another croc tour, this one was very good with plenty of croc's, including a baby croc only 6 weeks old, snake's and a lot of bird life + we got lunch included in tour price - kool.
Cape Tribulation was a real disappointment, you see all the advertisements and expect great things, they only show the best parts and they are photo enhanced.
The ferry trip over the Daintree River cost $16.00 each, and a drive to the national Park was 39km, the beach here you cant swim in mainly the tide goe' out for hundreds of metres and the danger of being taken by a Croc is a bit of a worry and Stingers in a couple of months time, not worth it, but on a plus side we had an Ulysses Butterfly land near us, we got up very Close to a Huge Goanna that almost bit an Asian tourist, who tried to pat it,  you wonder what they use for brains?.
12th sep. San and I took a Drive to Trinnity Beach, it was where my Uncle Ross was stationed in World War2 before beign shipped to New Guinea. Trinnity is a very nice tourist town probebly the best we have seen in Tropical Q.L.D.
