GULGONG and HILL END

It is now April and we have driven to Gulgong to stayed on the Bainbridge's property at Leahyes Creek for 2 weeks.
Went touring around Mudgee, Pyrimal and out to see the old historic Gold Mining town Of Hill End, the road in was a Nightmare with pothole's and corrugation's, we could only travel at about 40km so as not to sustain any damage to the car, but it was worth the trouble to see the Old Ramshackle home's and also to see a recreation of a Gold Mine that had taken 3 years to build - it had even fooled the Council Inspectors who had to give Safety Certificates before they could operate and let in Tourists.
Prior to going to Gulgong we spent 3 days at Glenbawn Dam, it was so dry and the water level was very low, the Drought is causing a lot of hardship for the farmers and the tourist industry.
Left the dam and went into Scone to get supplies for the Easter break, then moved out to the Cassillis rest area to meet friends Reg & Rosaline, it was raining all the way from Scone we were glad to pull up and have a break for an hour, after meeting Reg & Ros we left for the Summer Hill Beef Cattle Station in the Teaming Rain, we are now driving on a gravel road (mud) and I have got Bogged going up a steep hill, Reg has gone on ahead and set up camp at the front of a large shearing shed and he then came back to tow us to the shed with his 4wd. About 3 hours later it has stopped raining and the sun is out, it now looks good for Easter.
When we opened the door to the van the light above the table had worked loose, caused by the rough road conditions and has smashed all over the table and floor, it will take Sandra some time to clean this mess up.
Reg's 2 Daughter's and there familys have turned up for a 4 day break, so we will have plenty of company.
San and I have walked down the hill to look at the old Homestead which was built over 150 year ago and is in excellent condition with three small bedroom's, combined dining and kitchen area with a large open fireplace that goes the length of this room.
Reg, myself, and Vernon (Reg's son in law) have gone out to see if we can nail a few Rabbits and Ducks for Dinner, the result was 6 Rabbit's and 5 Duck's which was not that bad considering that I have not fired a Shot gun in many year's, Reg and Vernon cleaned them while I had a Nanny Nap. A couple of day's later we went four wheel driving to have a look at this large property (over 11,000 Acres), as well as the Beef Cattle we saw, Roo's, Echidna's, all sorts of Parrot's and Wallaby's. The drive has taken us over 2 hours with a bit of excitement, as Reg was driving down an embankment the car slid sideways and ended hard up against a Pumping shed that pumps water to the Farm and cattle pond's, Reg and his Daughter Jill walked back to the shed to get a Tractor to pull out the 4WD, I loaded up a shotgun and went of to see if I could bag some rabbit's to pass the time away. Sandra stayed with the vehicle, I had Spooked 2 roo's they shot off down the Mountain and scared the living daylight's out of San, she thought that rock's from above her were falling as the roos flew past and of into the bush. Five hour's later Reg came back and towed the 4WD out of the muddy bog.
Next night San came out with us to do some spotlight shooting, she enjoyed it very much as she has not done this before.
At the end of the Easter Holiday's I had received bad news - my Aunt Joan has passed away she was 80 years old - we will go down to Panania for the funeral.

Our Grandson Robert.
25/04/2006 Robert has had an Angiogram and the Dr's have told him he had a mild heart attack, he will have to adjust to a different lifestyle now, Rob is such a headstrong boy he will do as the Dr's tell him.
We are now heading back to Gulgong to collect the caravan and move on as soon as Robert is on top with his Health - we are ringing Rob every day and he is getting much better now, he is only 20 years old. He makes us so Proud to have a Grandson like him.
