CERATODUS to MUNDUBBERRA

10/08/05. We are on our way to Ceratodus, it is named after the Queensland Lung fish that inhabit the creek's & river's in this area, and it is a free camp stop, it is near Eidsvold. The Mounted Native Police were stationed at nearby Traylon not far from here. This neck of the wood's was once part of the Colony of New South Wales and back before Queensland had become a State.
The first White Settlers arrived here in 1849, and the police barrack's were built here between 1852-1856, the barrack's were not only Headquarters for the mounted police but were also a safe haven for settler's traveling through the area. The Ceratodus railway station was built in 1924 and transported to this Rest Stop in 1997. One of the crops that grew here was Cotton, and the first Bales were delivered in 1926 by horse and cart.
11/08/05. Today we have moved to Mundubberra, we have stopped to look at the Big Orange Caravan Park, it is chock a block with Backpacker's and most of these are Ferral, they have left the place looking like a Pig Sty with rubbish strewn everywhere, they were all sitting around just watching us, we soon shot through to the vanpark across the road ( Big 4 Three Rivers Caravan Park ). With a very good swimming pool ( we had a swim ), Sandra had her hair cut in town its a real eye opener here, there are many "Locals" just sitting around doing nothing, the men's shop's sell all kind's of good's including Ladies Clothes and the woman's shop's sell just about everything else but the quality is very good but Outdated, they also sell Cowboy Gear as there are a lot of Cowboys about in old Utes and battered up old truck's, but they are so Polite ( bet Amie would like to be here ? ) The town's old Ladies gather around on shop seat's to chat, one old Dear said to San wots News ? And have a nice day, and another said "Wots Happening Girl", we both had a good laugh and continued our walk, San made me laugh when she said you can learn a lot from old folk ?. There a also a lot of backpacker's in the van park and so many different Culture's, one Korean chap gave us some tips on how to Saute Vegies in Soya Sauce, they make it look so easy.
12/8/05. Woke up at 9am now we are feeling Winter so cold the car is all iced over, I had to lift the car bonnet to let the sun warm the battery before I could start it.
13/8/05. Bundaberg has had it's Coldest day on record, 9 Deg - Sandra has come inside and said that it is " Frigen Freezing " out there. We are leaving for Gayndah this morning.
