05/06/05. After setting up the van we took a walk along the $10.000.000 upgrade of the promenade at Bagara. It is really spectacular, it is paved for well over a kilometer with tropical (dic dic) trees, fantastic viewing of the beach and ocean, and well placed modern toilet facilities and a huge children's play area with a monstrous Sea turtle for the kids to play on as well as Pelicans, Fish, Seagulls & Rope Netting to climb all over.
You have to be on your guard when crossing the road as pedestrians must give way to all traffic. On the way back Sandra said that it felt great to smell the sea air and looking at the water she spied a pod of Dolphins swimming close to shore, that certainly made her day, as for my day I will settle for a Beer or three.
Next day San was up early and went for a walk she came back hobbling, she had kicked her big toe (Stumpy) and said S--- it hurts and that it is broken and will take some time to heal. 11/06/05. Drove around to Kelly's Beach, it looks like a great place to swim and then to Coral Cove with an international Golf Course, it is verv exclusive and there are some Majestic homes here, and then on to see our good friends Max & Judy Moore at Elliot Heads.
We then returned back to the van park where San said that I needed a hair cut,she said how do you want it cut? I said cut it all off so she did and then she started to cry and said that I looked like I was on chemo, wot the heck it feels good she will just have to get used it.
12/06/05. Went down to the beach for a swim and there was another sign, warning beware of the Brown Snakes, that made Sans day, bloody hell she is tip toeing around looking from side to side and breaking out in a sweat, the Life Guards told us that they come out of the sandbank's to cool off. They had killed 3 snake's only a few day's ago as they were clearing some weed's and bush from near the clubhouse.
Cathy Wellfare rang to say that her and Posso had sold there house at Box Hill (N.S.W) and had bought another home at Failford near Tuncurry, we will call in and see them on our way back. 13/06/05. We went for our morning walk to the shop's and Sandra bought a leopard print skirt she will look good in it, then later we drove out to Mon Repos Beach to checkout the caravan park and also look at the beach where loggerhead Turtles come ashore to lay there eggs.
We are too early as they don't start to come in until November and then the beach get,s that crowded that you have to book a ticket to get on the beach to just see them.
On the way out along the road, near a swamp we saw a Jabaru, I could not believe my eye's WOW I have never seen them before only in zoo's.
14/06/05. Barbara and Peter Fuller called out today for a visit. Barb bought out her sewing machine and helped Sandra hem the bedroom curtain's, they are great people and have helped us a lot with our rest stop's and good van park's.
San's big toe is giving her a lot of pain today, but she said that it will not stop her from getting about, so we have gone to see the Bundaberg Marina but unfortunately it is raining, so we will go out to the Botanical Garden's north of Bundy and brave the weather.
When we arrived the rain had stopped and the sun was coming out. The Japanese gardens are superb, very well made with plenty of colour. The water feature is spectacular. In the grounds they have transported Bert Hinklers house from England, and turned it into a museum, he was a great Australian Aviator who lived in Bundaberg and used to go out to Mon Repos beach to get his aeroplane off the hard sand to get airborn.
On the way back we stopped at Fairy Mead House which is now a museum to commemorate the sugar Industry in the area, the old house has 16ft ceiling's and consist's of many room's, some of which were office's where they ran the daily business.
The next day was a trip to the Hummock lookout, it is about the size of a small hill, you can see for mile's and mile's with sugar cane stretching as far as the eye can see.
Bundaberg is a huge flat area and the Hummock was a Volcano million's of year's ago, hence the lava stones that are everywhere, especially on the beache's.
Up early today (Sunday) to go to the Shalom market's which is held in the ground's of a Jewish College, they sell a lot of local produce here, as well as the usual market stuff the Fruit and Vegie's are so fresh.
Back at the caravan now, Sandra has rung Amie,Mitch,Danny, and Nicky to say Hi, we miss them so much, and we also rang Robert as well, and he is going o.k. we do miss him, rang Robin & Graeme to see how he is doing, he has Bowel Cancer but he is a tough old Bugger but deep down he is worried, (San can relate to that) he starts chemo in August. Lyn Beck is still on radiation for her Hodges Disease (Lymphoma) she is not too good, and our other friend Coral Redmond is having radiation for the Cancer in her leg, my god 3 of our Dear friend's in the same situation, but they are all in a positive frame of mind.
