There are Kangaroos on the football field and Emus and their Chicks on the property next door, Sandra is having a ball taking photos of the wild life.
2 days in Morven is enough and we have left for "Mitchell", we are camped at The Lloyd Jones Weir about 90km away.
As we were driving in to the camp stop I drove over a huge speed hump the car was almost airborne the car and caravan came down with a thud, everything seemed to be OK but as I was reversing into a site the steering was making a loud noise and was very hard to steer, I got out and had a look, there was oil on the ground, I had damaged a steering tube, Lexie put on a cuppa, I cursed my bad luck and then rung the RACQ, the Mechanic said that it would take a couple of days to get here so it looks like we will be here a lot longer than we expected to be.
I have caught a few more Yabbies here in Mitchell, the fly's and heat are now getting unbearable. To Make things a little more comfortable John and I decided to wear Sarongs for a laugh and as a bonus when other campers drove in we would stand up and walk around, they left us well alone, I wonder why?, we now have the camp to ourselves.
The service from the RACQ is very good, the mechanic from Acaram Motors in Mitchell was very helpful, he called out to camp twice to let us know that the parts were on the way from Roma, when they arrived he drove out to camp again, and I followed him back to town, he fixed the problem in half hour the cost was only $53.00 including labour, bus freight from Roma ($12.90). Fantastic.
With the car going very good now we have said good bye to John and Lexie, there company was great for the last couple of weeks, the Gribben's are going to Chinchilla and us to Roma.
06/10/2007. The back problem with John Gribben was an early warning call for us as to the availability of mobile phone coverage in the outback. We are staying in Roma for about 4 days to collect a new rural phone that should help the coverage a lot more than we get from our old phone.
John & I being Cool at Camp on the Barcoo River - Tambo
On the the drive down to Roma there were many emu's feeding in the grass paddock's close to the road.
We will make the most of the swimming pool in the Big Rig Caravan Park at Roma, it will wash away all the dust from those free stops that were without grass to camp on. We have just picked up our new mobile phone, hope we get better coverage. 4 days in Roma was enough and as luck would have it, it rained last night and the dust has settled. We are now camped at the back of the Nindigully pup 42km from St George, we were here last year and not much has changed. The beer is not pouring to well so we are drinking Stubbies, such a pity I was looking forward to having a few draft beers but this is better than nothing. Whilst drinking in the pub it has started to rain and we are camped next to the Moonie River, if I am bogged in the morning we will just have to stay until we can get to higher ground.
With more rain overnight and more this morning, we are bogged and and will have to stay another day at the pub, oh well it could be worse, by 9am the rain has stopped and the sun is out, 3pm the ground has dried out, we have driven up close to the pub and are in luck, they have sorted out the gas problem with the beer, and it is now very cold, just the way I like it.
We were not the only ones to get bogged 6 others were stuck as well' and they were 4Wd's, plus 1 semi trailer.
The following morning we left the Nindigully Hotel and drove over the border to the Moree Thermal Pools for a coupe of days of relaxation.
From the Moree Pools we traveled further south to Gulgong and stayed a few days with our good friends John & Michelle, then down to Camden for a night in a van park then down to Cullburra Beach to see Ross and Frances Farmer for 2 days and finally back to the Central Coast to see our Family's and our Darling Grand Kids.
(The end for now?)
