WAUGHHOPE to MACKSVILLE

Left Waughhope for Macksville heading north, stopped at Paddys Reststop for a cuppa and a BBQ,at about 3pm another 2 caravans pulled in I thought that it might be ok to stay the night as there is safety in numbers on these free stops. After dinner we retired to bed , at about 10pm we heard voices & they got closer and closer then a flash of light near the window I looked out the curtain, and saw 3 men coming closer and they threw a lump of wood at our van just missing the window, I yelled to Sandra to get the f@!#%*#gun well these guys took of like scalded cat's straight up the hill and into the bush. I got out of the van with a torch in my mouth a large knife in hand San stayed inside with an axe for her protection, I quickly picked up our possesions and took off for Macksville.
It was raining as we drove down the mountain, San said for christ sake slow down - as I hit the brakes they were not slowing us down very much. I then realised that in our hast to get away I had forgotten to hook up the vans 12v leads, so when it was safe to pull over I had stopped in a place called DEAD MANS CREEK ( bloody great!!). In about 15mins we were at the van park we had booked into the day before,the manager came running out and asked what was wrong, we told him what had happened and he escorted us to a site, we were out of the car into the van I knocked off 2 middys of port and a long neck of VB to settle the nerves.
I was so proud of Sandra she kept her cool but was shaken up, she said as it was our first freestop that it would be a long time until the next one
