Darwin (at Last)

8/5. Sandra and I are now in Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory.
We are staying at the Shady Rest Caravan Park, it is the closest park to Darwin.
9/5. Did touring around town, the wharf, saw government house etc, the harbour waters are so clean and blue.
Darwin will never be forgotten, most sad memories started with world War 2 & later Cyclone Tracy, which flattened over 80 percent of the city. It is now a modern but small city with a few skyscrapers with a big tourist draw card. At the moment it is very hot and humid, one would have to be born and bred here to cope with the humidity.

Tonight we are going to Mindil Markets, it is a must see when in Darwin, as well as the normal market paraphernalia, it is the Asian food stalls and food from 5 continents and 1200 different food items to choose from, we will do our best to make a dent in some of it. Lots of the craft that is sold is made from Crocodile, Cane Toad and Buffalo products.
The markets provide work for more than 1000 people and bring in $15000,000 to Darwin's economy. And all at the back of Mindil beach. The sunsets here are some of the best that you would see anywhere.
Sandra missed the Kids today as it is Mothers day, but she got a peck on the cheek from an Aboriginal guy who said that he misses his Mum, she lives in Queensland, it took San by surprise but a nice compliment all the same.
11/5. 30 deg over night and humidity just as bad. Drove out to Casurina to buy some supplies for our next Destination - Kakadu, the shopping complex at Casurina is huge. Also visited the Underground Wartime Oil Tunnels back at Darwin, they were built to stockpile oil after Darwin was attacked by the Japanese in World War 2, but were never used as the war had ended by the time that they were almost completed. Yvonne rang to say that her & Peter are now in Longreach
the will never catch up to us now, we will be in Perth before they reach Darwin?
Met Patricia and Noel who are camped behind us, nice people, she made me 2 litres of home made Ice Cream to take with us as we leave tomorrow, I sure hope we meet up with them again the ice cream is very good but to rich for Sandra. "Oh well", tough luck San.
1. Dripstone Beach - Darwin.
2. Darwin Sunset.
3. Darwin world war 2 Oil Storage Tunnels.
4. Mindil beach waiting for sunset.
